No January 13 Deadline for BOI Reports
There is no formal deadline for filing BOI reports. It is currently on hold.
The deadline for filing your Beneficial Ownership Information (BOI) reports with the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network is like a seesaw. One day there is a deadline and the next day or two there is no deadline.
We had previously reported that the Fifth Federal Circuit had overturned the national injunction on filing these reports that was originally placed on it by the Eastern District of Texas.
Fincen.gov had then updated their website to indicate a new due date of January 13, 2025 (next Monday). It seems a lot of people still believe that is the current deadline.
However, that ruling was then overturned a few days later by the same Fifth Circuit and that is where we currently stand.
Fincen.gov then updated their website to indicate there is no deadline as of now but encourage taxpayers to go ahead and file their report.
Fincen.gov provides a fair amount of detail on this seesaw, but you are not required to file any report right now and there is no deadline yet. Based on the extra days that they provided originally, we would guess that they will apply the same type of extra days once it is approved (if in fact it is ruled constitutional by the Supreme Court).
We will keep you posted.
