House Kills SALT Marriage Penalty Bill
The House yesterday killed the SALT Marriage Penalty Bill that was voted out the House Ways and Means Committee a few weeks ago.
The House in a procedural vote killed the SALT Marriage Penalty bill that was passed out of the House Ways and Means Committee on February 14.
The Bill would have increased the State and Local Tax (SALT) deduction for married couples from $10,000 to $20,000 but only for 2023.
It appears that 13 New York Democrats voted against the bill indicating that the Republicans created the issue with the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act and this bill did not correct that issue.
The remaining Tax Bill passed by the House is still sitting with the Senate and likely that will not get voted on until late this month or sometime in March. Chances are still good it will pass but may have to go back to the House to be reconciled. We will keep you posted.
